Side window (privacy tint)

This is an 80% tint. We umm-ed and ahh-ed for ages about whether to go for the privacy tint, which we were worried wouldn’t let in enough light. But it’s fine, and great on hot sunny days. It’s easy enough to fit, but give yourself plenty of uninterrupted time, and we found a window suction…

Celotex 50mm solid insulation board

50mm, 8 x 4 polyisocyanurate insulation boards for filling the cavities in the walls and roof. This thickness (about 2″) is quite rigid, so difficult to conform to the curved walls of the van. A thinner board might be easier to install. 5 sheets for £120 from Wickes

Soudal Adhesive Foam

We’re going to try using this as an alternative to the other expanding foams to hold the solid insulation boards in place. £9 from Screwfix
-
No Nonsense Expanding Foam

Basic insulation foam for filling in the gaps around the solid insulation panels in the walls. £5.20 from Screwfix
-
Soudal Genius Insulation Foam

This does the same job as the No-Nonsense insulation foam, but comes in a more user-friendly dispenser. £7 from Screwfix

I’ve been using the expensive Fix All adhesive to glue down the foam strips under the floor. This is much cheaper, and should be all that is needed for this simple job. £2.65 from Screwfix

Update 2017-06-15: this conduit is 20mm diameter, which limits our options for routing. So we’ve also bought some 10mm conduit, which will hopefully allow…

Floor paint

We’re sealing the plywood floor with this water-based floor paint. We’ll likely cover it with lino. We could seal it with PU varnish, but we already have the floor paint, so that’s a more economical solution.

Plywood

The stock floor in our Sprinter was covered in silicon glue, spilt oil and other nasty mess, so we had to remove it. We’re replacing it with this 12mm (1/2″) WBP (water boil proof) far eastern plywood. Finding good consistent information about plywood is impossible in my experience. Everyone you speak to has a different…
