Grip fill

I’ve been using the expensive Fix All adhesive to glue down the foam strips under the floor. This is much cheaper, and should be all that is needed for this simple job. £2.65 from Screwfix

2017-05-24: Floor underlay and rust treatment
This week, I’ve been continuing work on the floor. Before we can lay the new plywood floor down, we need to fill the grooves with closed cell foam, and then add a layer of underlay. For this piece, I used the Soudal High Tack adhesive to stick down the foam. Meanwhile Amy continues on the…

2017-05-23: Flooring
A found a few hours this evening to cut the final piece of plywood for the floor, and apply a coat of paint to one side. https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/cXYQ8QWg_fw?rel=0 There’s still a lot to do before the floor is complete. We have to fill all the grooves with closed cell foam, add a layer of underlay, and…

Convoluted sleeve (electrical conduit)

We’re using this conduit to run wires through the van before lining the walls. This gives us a little more flexibility for the electrical systems when we install those. £5 from Screwfix. Update 2017-06-15: this conduit is 20mm diameter, which limits our options for routing. So we’ve also bought some 10mm conduit, which will hopefully allow…

2017-05-20: Rust treatment and cutting the floor
We didn’t have a whole lot of time this weekend, but made good progress doing some essential prep so we can get the new floor in. Amy prepped the metalwork for rust treatment, and applied the POR-15 to all the minor inside patches of rust. It’s nothing serious, but we want to make sure all…

Floor paint

We’re sealing the plywood floor with this water-based floor paint. We’ll likely cover it with lino. We could seal it with PU varnish, but we already have the floor paint, so that’s a more economical solution.

Plywood

The stock floor in our Sprinter was covered in silicon glue, spilt oil and other nasty mess, so we had to remove it. We’re replacing it with this 12mm (1/2″) WBP (water boil proof) far eastern plywood. Finding good consistent information about plywood is impossible in my experience. Everyone you speak to has a different…

POR-15 Rust treatment kit

This is a kit of agents and brushes for treating rust in metalwork. We’re using it to treat the small dents and scratches that are forming rust on the floor, wheel arches and roof of the van. The kit contains: POR15 Cleaner Degreaser (236ml) POR15 Metal Prep (236ml) POR15 Rust Preventive Paint (113ml) 2 wooden…
